Legal & disclaimers

Last updated: August 5, 2026 · FlameWire is an independent fan project.

By accessing or using FlameWire (the “Site”), you acknowledge and agree to the terms and disclaimers below. If you do not agree, do not use the Site. These terms describe how the Site works, protect the project and its operators, and set expectations for visitors, creators, and rights holders. This is a fan index and analytics desk—not an official NHL, club, Reddit, forum, or publisher product.

FlameWire is a personal hobby project built by a Calgary Flames enthusiast for fun, learning, and sharing fan tools with the community. It is not a professional media company, licensed data vendor, scouting agency, or commercial sports-information service. Features may be incomplete, experimental, or change as a side project evolves.

1. Independent fan site — no affiliation

FlameWire is an independent, unofficial fan project operated for community interest only—a hobby built by an enthusiast, not an official or commercial arm of any league, club, or platform. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, authorized by, or associated with any of the following (or their parents, subsidiaries, or affiliates), among others:

  • the National Hockey League (“NHL”), NHL Enterprises, any NHL member club (including the Calgary Flames Hockey Club), the NHL Players’ Association, arenas, or broadcast partners;
  • Reddit, Inc. or the r/CalgaryFlames community moderators;
  • CalgaryPuck or other independent fan forums;
  • Elite Prospects, DobberProspects, PuckPedia, HockeyDB, Google, X (Twitter), YouTube, podcast hosts, or any news outlet linked from the Site.

Names, marks, and team or platform references appear only for identification, commentary, news indexing, fan discussion, and navigation under ordinary descriptive use. Nothing on the Site should be read as an official statement of the NHL, the Flames, Reddit, or any third party.

2. What the Site offers (scope of these terms)

These disclaimers apply to the entire Site and all of its features as they exist now or may be added later, including without limitation:

  • Wire / media desk — home feed, analysis & opinion, articles, YouTube & video listings, podcasts, story pages, Live Desk / ticker, and source-by-source listings.
  • Web Wire Hits — discovery headlines and links from public web/news indexes (for example Google News RSS for “Calgary Flames”) that open on the original publisher’s site.
  • Flames Reddit — a list of recent post titles from the public r/CalgaryFlames Atom/RSS feed that open on Reddit.
  • CalgaryPuck — a list of recent public forum threads (board order / public feed) that open on CalgaryPuck.
  • Flames on X — curated public account directories and on-demand public post previews where available.
  • Team pages — schedules, standings (including historical seasons and views such as division, conference, and wild card), club and player-oriented stats, NHL roster tools, salary-cap views, and related banners.
  • Flames Data Lab — team, player, and prospect analytics (charts, leaders, trajectories, Dom Game Score, Corsi/process metrics, DirtyXg, NHLe, FlameWire Calc, and comparisons), plus the Lab methodologies page.
  • Prospect pool — curated prospect listings, optional scouting search links, expand-on-demand headlines, third-party talent embeds where shown (for example Elite Prospects), and projection cards (NHLe and FlameWire Calc).
  • Roster tools — current NHL roster listings, profile link-outs (NHL, HockeyDB, Lab, and similar), social/media search links, and—where age gates apply—the same style of NHLe / FlameWire Calc projection cards used for younger players.
  • Instagram directory — informational links to public Instagram accounts associated with the club or roster where we list them; opens on Instagram under Meta’s terms.
  • Site search — search over desk items and player names with deep links into roster/prospect rows where available.
  • Arcade — entertainment games such as Trail of Teams, Flames Minesweeper, Flame Chase, and related hub pages.
  • Sources, contact & submissions — directories, credits, contact form, and forms to suggest media sources.
  • Site chrome & utilities — navigation, theme preferences, Wire feed filters stored in your browser, legal pages, optional long-form briefings generated for discovery, and other tools used solely to operate the Site.
  • Optional / experimental pages — features we may enable or park (for example a history brochure when publicly enabled). Experimental pages remain covered by these terms when served.

3. Public information only — how we obtain and store data

FlameWire is built around publicly available information. In particular:

  • Hockey data (schedules, standings, scores, club and player stats, play-by-play, roster lists, and multi-league season totals on public player landings) is obtained from the public NHL.com web API and related publicly available NHL data surfaces. We calculate Lab metrics ourselves from that public data using public formulas and FlameWire’s own methods, as described on our Data Lab methodologies page.
  • News, analysis, podcasts, and video are listed or linked from publicly available publisher pages, public feeds, and public platform listings (for example YouTube or podcast directories)—not from private or login-only libraries we have no right to access.
  • Web Wire uses publicly available news-discovery RSS (for example Google News search RSS). We store titles, links, and related metadata for discovery and send you to the original publisher when you click.
  • Flames Reddit uses Reddit’s public Atom/RSS feed for r/CalgaryFlames (for example reddit.com/r/CalgaryFlames/.rss). We store post titles, authors, timestamps, and Reddit deep links for listing on the Site. We do not republish full post bodies, comment trees, votes, or private user data, and we do not claim to be an official Reddit client.
  • CalgaryPuck uses publicly reachable forum board information and/or public RSS for thread titles and last-activity style listings that open on CalgaryPuck. We do not host forum discussions or claim to operate the forum.
  • Database storage. To reduce load on third-party services and keep the Site responsive, FlameWire generally fetches on a schedule or on demand, then serves visitors from our database. Page views by users are not intended to generate a one-to-one request to the NHL, Reddit, Google, or forums for every visitor. Refresh intervals are chosen to be polite; we may slow or pause polling if a service rate-limits or errors.
  • We do not scrape private or login-walled systems to build the Site. We do not break authentication, paywalls, CAPTCHAs, or access controls to obtain content. We do not use stolen credentials, bulk-harvest personal data from restricted areas, or pull data from non-public databases.
  • Where we show third-party logos, headshots, or similar public brand assets (including identifying logos such as Reddit or publisher marks stored for display), they are used only for identification and fan context and remain the property of their rights holders (see Section 6).
  • Third-party scripts and embeds on the Site (when present) may include widgets such as PuckPedia contract popovers, Elite Prospects frames, YouTube or Spotify embeds, and web fonts loaded from a font host. Those services process requests under their own terms and privacy policies.

Using public APIs and publicly reachable information is not the same as claiming ownership of that information. Official hockey records remain those of the NHL and its clubs. Third-party journalism, forum posts, and Reddit content remain that of the original publishers and users.

4. Linking and attribution — best efforts

FlameWire’s model is to point readers to original sources, not to replace them.

  • We make best efforts to credit publishers and creators and to provide a working link to the original article, episode, video, forum thread, Reddit post, or official page whenever we feature third-party material.
  • Story cards, headlines, short decks, and similar presentation text are for discovery and navigation. They are not a substitute for the full original work. Please read, watch, or listen on the original site or app, and support the creators.
  • We do not claim ownership of third-party reporting, audio, video, social content, forum posts, or Reddit posts. We do not redistribute full articles, full paywalled text, or full Reddit/forum threads as a substitute for the original platform.
  • Links may break, titles may change, or a source may move or delete content. Best efforts does not mean perfect, permanent, or real-time accuracy of every credit or URL. If you are a rights holder or creator and a link or credit is wrong or missing, contact us and we will review good-faith requests promptly.
  • Inclusion in a feed or directory is not an endorsement, partnership, or guarantee that we will keep listing a source forever.

5. Community rails (Reddit, forums) — extra clarity

Community features such as Flames Reddit and CalgaryPuck are convenience indexes of publicly listed discussion items:

  • Content is created by third-party users and moderators on those platforms. FlameWire does not moderate those communities and is not responsible for user-generated posts, comments, or conduct off-Site.
  • Clicking a row leaves FlameWire and opens the third-party site under that site’s terms, rules, and privacy policy.
  • Public feed or board listings may be incomplete, reordered, delayed, or unavailable if the third party changes its API, feed, rate limits, or policies. We may stop a community rail at any time.
  • We do not provide voting, posting, messaging, or account features for Reddit or CalgaryPuck on FlameWire.

6. Trademarks, logos, uniforms, and brand assets

All team logos, wordmarks, crests, uniform designs, arena names, league logos, broadcast marks, platform logos (including Reddit and similar marks), publisher logos, and other brand assets displayed on the Site (including historical franchise marks and identifying icons stored for display) are the property of their respective owners—including, without limitation, the NHL, member clubs, Reddit, publishers, and other rights holders.

FlameWire claims no ownership, license grant, or exclusive rights in any such marks or assets. Display of a logo or name does not imply endorsement, sponsorship, or partnership. We may store logos in our database solely to identify a source without repeatedly requesting the asset from a third-party host. Rights holders who want material removed or re-attributed may contact us; we will review good-faith requests and, where appropriate, remove or adjust materials.

7. Third-party content (news, analysis, podcasts, video, Web Wire, social, community)

Headlines, articles, analysis, podcasts, videos, Web Wire Hits, social posts, forum threads, Reddit posts, thumbnails, and similar materials featured, summarized, or linked on the Site are created and published by independent third-party content producers, outlets, platforms, search indexes, forums, and creators. FlameWire organizes and links to that material for fan convenience.

  • We do not own the underlying reporting, audio, video, images, social content, or user-generated community posts.
  • We are not responsible for the accuracy, completeness, legality, opinions, claims, titles, descriptions, or any other aspect of content published by those third parties.
  • All views expressed in third-party content are solely those of the original authors, publishers, and users—not FlameWire.
  • You should consume full content on the original publisher’s or platform’s site or app and follow their terms of use, community rules, copyright notices, and privacy policies.

FlameWire does not control third-party websites, feeds, embeds, CDNs, font hosts, or platforms (including YouTube, podcast hosts, Instagram, X, Reddit, Google News or similar products, Elite Prospects, PuckPedia, HockeyDB, news sites, forums, and related services). Your use of those services is at your own risk and subject to their terms.

8. Titles, decks, and short text

Some pages may include titles, short decks, excerpts, or other text prepared for the Site as a convenience for readers. That material is not a substitute for the original source. It may omit context, misstate facts, contain errors, or become outdated. Always verify important information with the original publisher or official sources. FlameWire does not guarantee the accuracy of any title, deck, or excerpt.

9. Schedules, standings, stats, Data Lab, and hockey data

Game schedules, start times, scores, standings (current and historical), division/conference/wild-card views, club and player statistics, streaks, rankings, and related hockey data—including material shown in the Flames Data Lab (for example team charting, season leaders, player and goalie trajectories, career totals, Dom Game Score, Corsi/process metrics, DirtyXg, and comparisons)—are based on publicly provided NHL information accessed through the NHL’s public web APIs and related public NHL data endpoints, then typically stored and served from our database so ordinary browsing does not repeatedly query the NHL for every visitor.

Derived metrics are calculated by FlameWire from that public data as described on our methodologies page. Times may be shown in Calgary Mountain Time for fan convenience. Data may be delayed, incomplete, mislabeled, or incorrect. FlameWire does not warrant that any schedule, score, ranking, chart, lab statistic, or other hockey figure is accurate or fit for any particular purpose—including betting, fantasy sports, scouting, commercial use, or official record-keeping. Official results and records are those published by the NHL and its clubs.

10. Prospects, NHLe, FlameWire Calc, and projection cards

Prospect pool listings, multi-league career rows, NHLe (NHL equivalency), role ladders (ceiling / most likely / floor), and FlameWire Calc scores and tiers—and the same style of cards where we show them for younger NHL roster players under an age gate—are informational fan tools derived from public player landings and related public stats. They are:

  • not official NHL, Flames, or league evaluations;
  • not professional scouting, medical, or investment advice;
  • subject to sample-size gates (for example minimum games in a season before a translated score is shown) and may change as new public data arrives;
  • subject to errors in source data, mapping, age/draft inputs, or our methods.

NHLe is a scoring-translation style estimate (for example points-per-game scaled by league factors), not a guaranteed NHL point total. FlameWire Calc is an experimental 0–100 OVR-style potential score (a blended development view we’re still testing)—not NHLe points and not a promise of future performance. We’re not publishing the full formula yet while we gather more data and confidence. Expand panels, tooltips, and methodology pages explain methods at a high level; if anything conflicts, treat projections as approximate and non-authoritative.

Expand-on-demand “recent news” or scouting search links for prospects use public web/news search tools and may be cached. Those headlines belong to the original publishers; links open off-Site.

11. Player information, headshots, and career data

Player names, positions, numbers, career path data used in games (such as Trail of Teams), headshots, mugshots, and similar materials may be drawn from publicly available NHL and related public sources for display. FlameWire does not claim ownership of player likenesses or official headshot libraries. Such materials remain the property of their respective rights holders. Listings and lab careers are informational and may be incomplete or outdated.

12. Roster social and media links

Instagram handles and other social or media search links on the roster page are provided for informational purposes only. They are not an official club, league, or team directory. Accuracy is not guaranteed. Accounts may be unofficial or inactive. Do not misuse any profile information. Your use of Instagram or other third-party platforms is governed by those services’ terms—not ours. Optional third-party widgets (for example contract popovers from PuckPedia where linked) are provided by those services under their terms.

13. Arcade games and entertainment features

Arcade features—including Trail of Teams, Flames Minesweeper, Flame Chase, and any related scores, hints, or progress stored in your browser—are for entertainment only. They are not official NHL or Calgary Flames promotions, contests, or gambling products. No real-world prizes are offered unless we expressly say so in writing on the Site. Game data (including player career paths) may contain errors.

14. User submissions and contact messages

If you submit a source suggestion, contact message, or other information through the Site, you represent that you have the right to send it, that it is not unlawful or infringing, and that we may review, store, approve, reject, or ignore it at our sole discretion. Submissions do not create any obligation to publish, compensate, or respond. Do not submit confidential information, malware, spam, or content you do not have rights to share.

You grant FlameWire a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide right to use submitted source names, URLs, and related notes as needed to evaluate and, if approved, incorporate them into the Site’s directories and feeds, and to use contact messages as needed to respond and operate the Site.

15. Copyright complaints and rights-holder requests

We respect intellectual property. If you believe material on the Site infringes your copyright or other rights, or if you are a rights holder requesting removal or correction of a mark, logo, headshot, feed listing, or credit, please contact us with enough detail to identify the material (URL, description, and your contact information). We will review good-faith notices and may remove or modify content where appropriate.

Linking to publicly available third-party pages, and displaying short identifying titles or metadata for discovery, is intended as ordinary indexing and attribution—not as a claim of ownership over the original work.

16. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the Site, including by attempting to disrupt service, overload servers, probe or breach security, harvest data at scale for commercial resale, scrape or crawl the Site in a way that harms the service or its sources, reverse-engineer proprietary Lab methods for commercial redistribution without permission, impersonate FlameWire or the NHL/Flames, or use the Site for unlawful purposes. We may suspend access or remove materials as we reasonably deem necessary to protect the Site, users, or third parties.

Do not use FlameWire as a bulk proxy to hammer the NHL, Reddit, Google, forums, or other third parties. Automated access that recreates our polling at higher volume may be blocked.

17. Cookies, local storage, privacy, and similar technologies

The Site may use cookies, local storage, or similar technologies for basic operation and preferences—for example theme (light/dark), Live Desk visibility, Wire source-filter choices, session login for site administration (including security tokens used with admin actions), optional game progress, and similar convenience settings. These are used to run the fan experience, not to sell your personal information to data brokers.

We do not currently run third-party advertising or visitor-analytics pixels on the Site for marketing measurement. Contact messages and source tips you send are stored so we can operate and improve the Site (including spam control and rights-holder requests). We do not sell those submissions. Third-party sites, embeds, fonts, or widgets you load or open from our links may set their own cookies and collect data under their policies—not ours.

18. No professional, betting, scouting, or investment advice

Nothing on the Site constitutes legal, financial, medical, investment, gambling, fantasy-sports, scouting, or other professional advice. Content is for general fan interest only. You are solely responsible for any decisions you make based on information found here or on linked third-party sites. FlameWire is not a bookmaker, fantasy operator, licensed sports-information service, or scouting agency. Lab and prospect scores are educational / fan analytics, not recommendations to draft, trade, or wager.

19. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT, DATA, LINKS, SUMMARIES, GAMES, DIRECTORIES, LAB METRICS, PROJECTIONS, COMMUNITY LISTS, AND FEATURES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, TITLE, ACCURACY, OR AVAILABILITY. We do not guarantee that the Site will be uninterrupted, secure, timely, or free of errors, viruses, or other harmful components.

20. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, FLAMEWIRE AND ITS OPERATORS, CONTRIBUTORS, HOSTS, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SITE OR ANY THIRD-PARTY CONTENT OR SERVICES LINKED FROM THE SITE—EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

Without limiting the foregoing, FlameWire is not liable for: decisions you make based on Site information; errors in schedules, stats, standings, projections, or game data; third-party content, feeds, forums, Reddit posts, or search results; disputes with content producers, platforms, or rights holders; user submissions; or loss of browser-stored preferences or game progress. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

21. Indemnity

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless FlameWire and its operators from claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your misuse of the Site, your submissions, your violation of these terms, or your infringement of any third-party rights.

22. Intellectual property of the Site itself

Subject to the third-party rights described above, the Site’s own layout, original FlameWire branding created for this project, original copy, and original Lab methodologies or naming (for example FlameWire-specific metrics such as DirtyXg and FlameWire Calc) are protected to the extent applicable by law. © 2026 FlameWire. All rights reserved, except for third-party materials which remain with their owners.

You may not commercially resell a wholesale copy of the Site, mirror it in a way that implies official NHL, Flames, Reddit, or forum status, strip legal notices, or present FlameWire as an official league, club, or platform property.

23. Governing law and venue

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the applicable federal laws of Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Subject to mandatory consumer protections that cannot be waived, courts in Alberta have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from these terms or the Site, unless applicable law requires otherwise.

24. Severability

If any provision of these terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of that provision.

25. Changes to the Site and these terms

We may update, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Site at any time, including feeds, community rails, games, data views, and directories. We may also revise this Legal page. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the Site after changes means you accept the revised terms.

26. Contact

For rights-holder requests, copyright concerns, corrections, site feedback, or questions about this page, use our Contact us form. You can also suggest a media source on the Sources page. Please include enough detail for us to identify the issue.
